Tom brings over 20 years of healthcare sector marketing expertise, with a focus on integrated and multi-channel marketing strategy. Before joining FreshBlood, he led the creation of digital marketing platforms and drove award-winning online patient and professional ad campaigns for billion dollar brands at Johnson & Johnson and Intuitive Surgical. Tom was appointed as the founding Chairman of Digital Acceleration for the Johnson & Johnson medical device sector, where he led the adoption of best practices in paid, earned, shared and owned media across multiple business units. Tom has been a pioneer in transforming organizations traditional marketing capabilities to fully digital marketing automation leadership.
Tom’s career spans early experience in CPG with PepsiCo’s Quaker Oats business before moving to Warner-Lambert and Pfizer where he held management positions in sales and marketing. After completing his second graduate degree in the Management of Information Technology in 2001, Tom moved fully into the field of integrated marketing. He invested the next 5 years in executive leadership with successful venture-capital funded biotech and natural product startups before joining Johnson & Johnson, and most recently Intuitive Surgical. His focus on the customer first enabled a strategy of consistent brand messaging across communication touch points. His work in journey mapping of target patient and professional audiences drove conversion improvements and sustained growth in Johnson & Johnson brands from ACUVUE® Contact Lenses to the ONETOUCH® family of blood glucose meters, as well as Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci® Surgery System.
During his tenure at Johnson & Johnson, Tom was a 4-time James E. Burke Marketing Award winner, receiving honors for Breakthrough Media, Digital Marketing, Internet, and Integrated Campaigns. Tom’s bias for learning has led to an uncommon combination of education, with degrees in Economics from UCLA, an MBA from the University of Michigan, and an MS/Management Information Technology from the University of Virginia.
